Highly recommend reading "Love Never Dies"Review Date: 2008-08-02
I read "Love never Dies" a couple of months after losing my son. The book helped me journey through the most difficult and painful time of my life and gave me a renewed sense of hope and peace that my son still exists. Sandy Goodman's true story of a mother's loss and the relationship she still has with her son Jason left me believing that our loved ones are not gone but are still very much a part of our lives.
Sandy Goodman's book also led me to her wonderful and compassionate web-site and forum "Love Never Dies 4 U" It's been my life-line these past two years since I lost my son.

Not good for a complete novice.Review Date: 2006-08-13
The many pictures and instructions for the actual exercises were very easy to follow. However, the information in the introduction (including an explanation of the 6 basic principles) left me so very frustrated and confused! The book says to flatten your lower spine against the mat ('neutral spine') by 'lengthening' your spine without moving your hips or other body parts...but that's physiologically impossible! Does she not understand the basic mechanics of the body? And 'scooping' is described as feeling like a corset being tightened around your waist...which is only helpful if you've worn a corset before. Since the book implies that the exercises do little good if you don't have these principles right, the good, clear instructions on the actual exercises are probably useless to me because I don't clearly understand most of the basic principles.
I also doubt some of the claims of Pilates now that I've learned more about the system. I'm sure the system works fairly well at 'core' strength training for most people who use it, but some of the other claims seem a bit mystical in nature. If you love this method, that's great. If you understand the basic principles of Pilates, then this is probably a great book for you. Otherwise, I just can't recommend this book. I'll stick with "Straighter, Stronger, Leaner, Longer" by Renee Daniels which works the 'core' muscles as well as every last bit of the rest of your body.

A Great Book on the TitanicReview Date: 2008-04-13
The book is around 225 pages, has numerous photographs and colorful illustrations, and contains around 12 chapters and focuses on the following main areas:
1. Inception and building the ship.
2. The maiden voyage and details of the sinking.
3. Evacuating the boat.
4. Rescue efforts and memorial services.
5. Investigations into the sinking.
6. Discovery the Titanic on the ocean floor several years later.
7. Some of the Titanic artifacts found during the discovery.
The narrative was smooth throughout the book and was very enjoyable to read. The book also served to dispel myths presented in the latest Titanic movie from Hollywood (1997?) that starred Leonard DiCaprio and others. In particular, while people of different social classes were pitted against one another in the struggle for survival in the movie, the book was full of examples of people who willingly sacrificed their lives so that others may live. While the movie was okay, Hollywood did seem to twist some of the facts. Thankfully, the book was more accurate.
Read and enjoy this great account of an unfortunate episode in maritime history. Recommended.

Valuable Cancer EducationReview Date: 2009-01-05
Excellent treatment of a complex topicReview Date: 2008-12-27
Given all that, I had pretty high expectations of this book, and I wasn't disappointed. The fact that the reference section takes up 28 full pages of a 243-page book shows that the book has been extremely well researched, and is not just the product of the author's own musings.
Dr. Servan-Schreiber has taken an extremely complex and controversial subject, studied reams of published research reports on it and drawn together a practical, down-to-earth list of suggestions for minimising one's chances of developing cancer, or giving oneself the best shot at recovery and survival if cancer does develop. There's nothing spooky or way out, and no inflated promises or false hope. It's just solidly researched, sensible information that we can all apply in our lives (and which I believe will enhance our lives, whether or not the spectre of cancer is on the cards).
Despite the volume of medical data included in the book, it's written in layman's terms, yet without being too simplistic. Further, it's a very moving book that has a lot to say about living and dying well. My personal view is that this book is a precious gift to humanity, written with compassion and insight, and I thank Dr. Servan-Schreiber for making this information available all in one place so non-medical people can benefit from the vast number of discoveries that have already been made in the search to unlock the mysteries of this frightening disease.

Excellent way to educate friends / familyReview Date: 2009-01-04
We read through it with our son, then 9, and edited it to explain his personal quirks and interests. (We just wrote in his personal quirks, or crossed out what he felt didn't apply). We then shared it with grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Over the years, there have been a few good friends we have shared the book with as well, and it has been an excellent resource.

Regarding Naturopathy's Science-Ejected CODED Vitalism Premise, 1997:Review Date: 2008-12-29
this book's 'page 4' & 'page 14' are perfect examples of 'naturopathy's antiscience M.O.' from their top echelon,
e.g., what I call "the epistemic conflation of a school of thought claiming to be scientific" -- but, actually NOT, per:
state that naturopathy is "science-based natural medicine" and that licensure involves being professionally competent in the "basic sciences" and "clinical sciences"; and, simultaneously, state that amongst naturopathy's central premises are:
a) "nature has healing powers (vis medicatrix naturae)" [vitalism{disguised/coded!!!}] and
b) spiritism [supernaturalism{explicit!!!}]
-- all under that 'professions-level science-based' label.
Yet, according to the AAAS [see [...] ](2007) -- that is, ACTUAL science:
"no aspect of science can address supernatural questions [p.020...] one reason that modern science has flourished since the seventeenth century is that it has limited itself to natural explanations alone [p.032]."
Yet, according to NCSE and NABT [see [...] ](1995) -- that is, ACTUAL science:
"science does not, in fact cannot, study, explain, or judge non-scientific issues or supernatural belief systems [like naturopathy!!!...] nonscientific notions such as [...naturopathy's!] vitalistic theory [...] cannot legitimately be taught, promoted, or condoned as science in the classroom."
When is science's footprint made so large that it includes the PROFOUNDLY nonscientific...
naturopathy.
When does a supposed 'profession' mislead and disguise / code its central science-ejected premise, therein annulling its 'professions-level {credat emptor} medical science position'...
naturopathy.
Caveat emptor.

She eats other vegetables, though. I bought this book because she liked it when we checked it out of the library, not to teach a moral lesson.
We both think it's really funny that Little Pea has to eat candy in order to get spinach, and the illustrations of Little Pea's day are perfectly well done.
I definitely recommend it.

Best Cat Book Ever!!!!Review Date: 2008-09-18
I started the diabetes protocol feeding him only meat based food without fillers like grains, glutens, and vegetables, and it turned him around completely! He's never had any insulin injections, and despite the vet's diagnoses that he may never walk normally again, he regained normal walking completely from walking on his forelegs in pain due to the diabetes.
Without Dr. Hodgkins book, we would have never known that feline diabetes is a man-made disease that comes from a poor diet. The book was well written and very easy to read. I think every cat parent should have a copy of this book. It was a true life saver for us!

Another triumph for common sense!Review Date: 2008-08-30
A few years ago I adopted a street kitty who must have starved for much of his life because his "hungry button" was broken. He could not get enough of the crunchies. He gained a bunch of weight and then we noticed that he had become a water-drinking maniac: he would drink for 15 minutes in a row. His vet suggested that he was pre-diabetic and that I switch him to diabetic cat food. He didn't like it. I stopped the crunchies thinking that he could do without the carbs and switched to non-grocery hippie dippie canned food, the stuff with the cranberries, etc.
It didn't take very long for the weight to drop and for his coat to become very silky and smooth. And he hardly ever drank water again. I mean never! It was amazing. His good health was obvious.
About a year after I changed his diet, the pet food contaminations occurred and we all started to learn what's really in those crunchies: sawdust and other non-nutritious dust pressed into shapes then sprayed with rancid aerolized grease. Gross.
And now I think I will switch to frozen raw stuff only and cut out the cranberries altogether. When left on their own, cats won't touch cranberries!
This book contains great information that's based on a careful look at how and what cats really are and that questions the "facts" forced upon us by Big Pet Food, Incorporated. I recommend it to anyone, especially to anyone who has a cat that drinks a lot of water or has chronic health problems.

This book revels flashback and realistic detail. Some of the flashbacks that are mentioned are of when Katie was in the hospital and when her and Josh was still together. The realistic detail is amazing. For example, when Eric and Meg go for a canoe ride together the author gives details on everyhting surrounding then and what they do exactly. Also, the author uses a lot of humor in the book. Such as whe nthey have a tug-a-war challenge and the girls lose. They get pulled into a mudd puddle and Lacey says, " I've always wandered what i'd look like as a brunette.
This book is a really good book to read. When I started reading this book I didn't want to put it down. It shows realationships and friendships. If I had'nt read this book and someone had just told me about it I would read it in a heartbeat. That says a lot because i'm not one to read that much. So therefore, this book is a great book for romance and tradgey.
