If this book strikes a chord with you -- it will help you orchestrate your life --- FINALLY!!!

Not only does "Is It You, Me, or Adult A.D.D." break down recognizing the symptoms of AD/HD using real-life relationship scenarios, it takes the next step by giving you a "road map" on what to do next.

Some people will tell you that AD/HD doesn't exist, especially in adults. But this reader thinks that belief is perpetuated because of the "stigma perceptions" that make it so hard to talk about AD/HD and accept its "differences" in brain function. Science has given more insight into the WHYs of depression, anxiety, impulsiveness, inattention, mood swings and seemingly irresponsible people -- Gina has taken that information and has produced a step-by-step guide in a language we can all understand so you can grab the reins of your life despite these "differences". So if you want to do something about the struggles that -- in the past -- were dismissed as being lazy or difficult read Gina's book. It will help you in understanding WHAT has been so difficult to put into words regarding AD/HD and her writing does it with a sense of humor, so desperately needed. We are ending the times of sticking our heads in the sand -- and beginning the time of relationship-building and true explanations based on SCIENCE.

If this book strikes a chord with you, there will be many "AH HA" moments!!!

Finally, some answers and hope

Are you and your partner fighting all the time? Does it seem like it's always one thing or another? Things get close to settling down, but it never happens? Have you given up your hobbies, your friends? Starting to walk on eggshells? If you just KNOW something is amiss, READ THIS BOOK!! There's so much to say about this book. I could write volumes. It educates you, validates your thoughts and feelings, and helps you realize "It's not your fault". The author describes the stages you go through when you are being overpowered by your partner's symptomatic ADHD behaviors that leave you feeling hurt, lonely and resentful. The great thing about this book is that it takes you beyond pinpointing the issue and takes you to a place of healing and peace. Through Ms. Pera's thoughtful guidance, you are able to take back control of your life and have the strength, drive and courage to rebuild yourself, rediscover your passion and commitment for your partner, and take a lead role in shaping the course of your relationship in the future. My partner and I are not there yet, but with the new insight this book has given me, I know it's just a matter of time. The quality of the book itself should also be noted. It is well designed and printed on high quality paper. The author has included many subheadings, making it easy to access content fast. There are plenty of narratives, advice and information in the numerous boxes and sidebars. It is nicely organized and easy to read.

Wish I'd had this book 16 years ago!

Plenty has been written about ADHD in children and in adults. All the focus has been on the person with the disorder. What hasn't been effectively addressed is how it affects loved ones of people with ADHD. Nor has there been much hope or help for non-ADHD partners until now.

Reading this book was like a look back into my former marriage. My ex-husband has had ADHD his entire life. During our 12 years together, we - and our children - suffered so many of the situations Ms. Pera describes in her book.

The first part of the book sets up what it's like to ride the ADHD Roller Coaster. Just reading the stories from the support group members caused my adrenaline to surge, like it used to regularly. Believe me, the partners of folks with this brain disorder tell their stories well. The hyper-vigilance, walking on eggshells, watching every penny - it's such a hard way to live.

The surveys the author used are also very revealing. You get a pretty good picture of the challenges faced by partners of folks with ADHD and how the disorder colors every facet of life - eating, sleeping, parenting, sex, finances - and the rest of the world can't understand. You feel positively bereft and, at best, nobody else understands. At worst - and this is standard operating procedure - any problems are entirely your fault.

In case you think I'm dissing folks with this disorder, you need to know how attractive, intelligent, creative, funny and talented they are. However, one does get sucked in by their hyper-focus on the prospective partner and the budding relationship. Then suddenly after the intended is "caught," that "knight-in-shining-armor" disappears and left in his (or her) place is somebody who has no concept of how to relate anymore because they've now moved on to the next person or project that catches their attention and they hyper-focus on that to the exclusion of everything else in their lives.

I spent years in therapy, both with and without the ex, and read many books on the subject to no avail. The problem was that none of the therapists or books took the next step into the challenges faced by partners and to offer effective coping strategies. Solutions were trite and useless. Communication tips for couples where one partner can't focus long enough to say good morning are no help whatsoever.

This book, "Is It You, Me, or Adult A.D.D?" frames the problems differently than any other I've read and gives solid, multi-pronged, science-based solutions. It explains, in layman's terms, how neurotransmitters in the brain work and how medication can make a huge difference by physically getting those messages across those synapses. As the author explains, medication can be to the ADHD brain what eyeglasses are to the myopic eye. There's no more shame in appropriately using medication than the appropriate use of eyeglasses.

There is no one size fits all solution and Ms. Pera makes an in-depth exploration of other therapies that support and supplement medication for those who find that to be a good option.

The best part of the book, however, is the advice and resources for finding a therapist who truly understands the disorder and its effects on a relationship. We spent thousands of dollars on therapists who seemed to know less about the disorder than we did. There was no guidance for people in choosing somebody to help back then.

I particularly appreciate the coping and self-care strategies offered. If these had been available to me ten years ago, I might be in better health today.

Though there's no way I could go back to my ex - too much hurtful water under that bridge - I wonder what could have been if we'd had a resource like this book at the beginning.

If you have the slightest inkling your significant other may have ADHD/ADD, and are wondering what to do for them and for yourself, this is the book for you. The information is very accessible. The author takes a complicated topic, and through humor, facts and examples, gives the reader options in how to better navigate their situation. There are also great references for further reading.

It was a book I have always needed but never had.
It's really worth reading not only for those who are really in love with lingerie, but even for more practical readers who want to make their life more comfortable. I've read the book in a couple of days and really enjoyed and wanted to have more. Very concise and to the point. A good investment to return to when it was already once read.

Great book on lingerie for any woman

This is a great overview on how to select lingerie best suited for your body. The author, Rebecca Aspan, is wonderfully compassionate towards her readers and understands women from AA to EE... The book celebrates the female form with practical applications, such as helpful ways to measure yourself. She even has a chapter for men!

Something great about the book is Aspan includes an array of body types for her lingerie models from full to thin, from busty to compact. She understands women are created uniquely and really has a firm understanding of female bodies and what fits, flatters, and supports. She offers useful tips on how to properly wear a bra, how underwear should comfortably fit, etc. This is less of an overtly sexual book, if anyone might have misconceptions of the title. Yes, it is a sexy little book, but sexuality simply comes with the territory. It's more of a book for a woman to take better care of her body, personal dress, feel comfortable and confident because she's not pestered by a pinching bra or a horrendous wedgie, and feel great whether someone will enjoy her underwear with her or not.

lingerie evangelism

According to the publisher's blurb, "Rebecca Apsan is the lingerie evangelist. She knows that intimate apparel has the power to transform." She knopws "that sexy silk or lace are feminine armor, offering a soft layer of protection against life's vicissitudes."

That's no exaggeration, my friends! (Maybe it's just me, but I can't get seem to get past the first color plate of this fine volume without a transformation in my throbbing vicissitude, every damn time I try to read her book for the information.)

Nevertheles, I give _THE LINGERIE HANDBOOK_ four stars only, instead of five. Here's why: I think Miss Apsan should have given more coverage to Yvette Thomas's line of WaitWear.

What is WaitWear, you ask? Virtuous question! Don't look for it in THE LINGERIE HANDBOOK.

"Wait Wear is a young contemporary clothing line that boldly promotes chastity until marriage in all of its apparel. It began in 2002 when the Founder, Yvette Thomas, awoke one night from a dream she had about putting simple messages, like No Vow, No Sex, on underwear, to help individuals remember the commitments they have made to remain celibate until marriage." --Miss Yvette Thomas <[...]>

Miss Thomas's stylish line of feminine undergarments allows a Christian teen or spinster to spell out, on her undies, what she will or will not do. The "willing" category includes machine wash. The "will not" category includes taking them off in the back seat of a car. Printed right there on WaitWear panties - on the frontside, or backside, or both, in boldly promotional print - are little reminders to be good.

Now if you have made a promise, as Britney Spears once did, to wait until marriage, or if you are a born-again virgin who does not wish to bear one, then WaitWear may be seen (by the boyfriend, too, if he's lucky!) as a godsend. For just when the petting has gotten almost out of hand, suddenly your boyfriend can read this message, printed in big black letters on your tiny white underpants, or vice versa: "Virginity Lane: Exit When Married."

IMHO, Miss Apsan should give credit where credit it due: Yvette's original idea--and it is a good one--is that if your date gets as far as your knickers on Saturday night, and if he reads the message and goes no further, then you and your parents, and your youth minister, and maybe even the boyfriend himself, will thank God on Sunday morning that you wore your WaitWear lingerie. (How's THAT for "silky feminine armor"!!)

(Girls: Be reminded that WaitWear, though a valued aid to holy abstinence, is not wholly missile-proof. Yvette's company will not be held responsible if the system fails. Better to think of the message on your underpants as a line of last defense, lest you should do something incautious, such as throw open the gates and surrender the fortress, only to discover, a month later, that the fortress has one extra little person in it!)

(To Yvette, if you're reading today: This is just a suggestion, but now that I think about it, shouldn't we maybe drop the subtitle on the hot short panties that read, "Virginity Lane: Exit When Married"? Seriously, Yvette: if I'm a guy, and I'm already halfway up Virginity Lane, how am I supposed wait until marriage before making my exit? Maybe someone these days is sending Christian teens the wrong message! Maybe it's the message on our own girlfriend's underwear!)

(Christian fathers: If you have a teenaged daughter and you are worried about what she may do with her boyfriend when you're not around, then allow Yvette and me to suggest that you buy your daughter an entire outfit. The WaitWear baby blue Boy Beater tank top ($19.99) has "textured ribbing for more stretch and give," which sounds a little worrisome; but it would work well, I think, under the snow-white "Wait for Marriage" jacket ($39.99), when worn with the cream-on-asphalt "Chaste Couture" pants down below ($37.98), and black "Traffic Control" hot short panties underneath ($12.99). The slacks are said to be good for "exercise loathers," and if your daughter is one of those, well, that's good! because then you don't even need to think about her underwear! But just in case, you can also buy WaitWear panties with the warning, "No Trespassing on this Property: My Father is Watching" - which is not really as kinky as it sounds because it is your daughter's heavenly Father, not you, who will be keeping an eye on whatever goes on, or comes off, down there.)

(Boyfriends: You can buy WaitWear panties in sizes 1 to 14. But if your girlfriend wears size 14, what need for Chaste Couture? What barbarian, except you, shall ever knock at the gate? Truly, if you are a man who nearly loses all self-control around a girl in size 14 knickers, then you are a man to whom I would not entrust my own dear Nellie [Nellie was my horse, but that was years ago; and besides, don't get your hopes up because the nag is dead.] The one advantage of a size 14 WaitWear panty, as I see it, is that you could special-order a whole Bible passage printed across the buttocks of your gal's panties, such as 1 Corinthians, chapter 7, as a little reminder for when you arrive; and then beg off, citing holy Scripture, saying, "Not tonight, honey, I have already come under conviction of the holy Spirit.")

Call it "nostalgia," but I find WaitWear virgin underpants quite sexy. "Chastity Knickers" is what I like to call them. That is because I once dated an English girl - this was 140 years ago - with that exact name. She was the eldest daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. William Knickers of Liverpool; which, if you knew Chastity, as I did, then you would have agreed with me that her Christian name was ironic. In fact, if you want to know the truth, it would have done that girl no harm whatsoever if she had worn panties that said, "No, for once.")

My personal favourite, although it is not something I would wear myself, is WaitWear's "Chaste Couture Thong" ($10.98), which Yvette advertises as "A panty that fits, looks, and feels like no other" - and I can personally attest to that. The thong is available in off-white and fuchsia. I recently gave one to my close personal friend, Ms. Heather Kelly, 21, of Chicago. It was a perfect fit, looked terrific, and felt quite lovely. I was completely satisfied. But I think I should have bought the off-white. Heather, who could not pronounce fuchsia, uttered a phrase one would not ordinarily hear on family TV. But Heather's wonderful slip of the tongue - and don't even get me going on that subject - also gave me an idea for a new line: last week I sent an email note to Yvette Thomas, suggesting that WaitWear should offer panties in white or nearly-white with a large-print message that reads: "Fuchsia Only After the Wedding."

But then I discovered something else that shocked me - and I swear this is true, you can go online and see for yourself ([...]): WaitWear has put out lovely new underpants with a pull-down menu that reads "Black / Heather / Kelly / Fuchsia" - and I thought, How true! Because my friend Heather Kelly of Chicago also happens to be an African American. Well, a coincidence like that does not just happen. Whenever I read something like that, I just know that God is not dead, that he is still up there and that he's trying to tell me something.

(To Heather, in case you're reading today: You and I are back on for Friday night. Sorry about last week. I'm such an old fool - I should never have kept you waiting! Next time I'll try to come sooner. In the meantime, watch for the FedEx truck with a package from Inglewood, California.)

I would actually like to follow in the footsteps of Yvette. That's my dream, to start my own product line. My first idea was to market "Lucifer's SafeWear condoms," coming in Bright Amber, which is the Lord's own hue (Ezek. 1:4, 1:27, 8:2), and one that would nicely complement the entire WaitWear spectrum, from snow-white to asphalt. My SafeWear condoms would bear the same advertising blurb as for WaitWear's Boy Beater tank top: "textured ribbing for more stretch and give." Yvette's corporate motto, with its catchy triune solecism - "WaitWear: Where Purity, Chastity, and Power Meets [sic] Fashion!" - further provided the inspiration for my own original company slogan: "SafeWear: Where the Rubber, Spermicide, and Lubricant Meets the Road!"

But then I Googled and I discovered to my horror that I have already waited too long, because someone else has beat me to the SafeWear logo. Available online at are some very handsome SafeWear® condoms, coming in two styles, "Pleasure Plus" and "Slippery Enough." So I had to think of something else. That's when I sketched out a new little device that I wish to call the "Chaste Couture Athletic Mouthguard." I have high hopes for a celebrity endorsement from my friend, Monica. I don't know if Yvette will agree to market the thing for me. My guess is that she will just say no. But I do think that my chaste latex mouthguard invention could be a terrific hit among Christian teens, and not unwarranted, with the way some of these born-again evangelical kids carry on these days.

My newest, and I think my best, idea is to sell Lucifer's ScoreWear® - "Literary Boxer Shorts" and hot short "Lyrical Briefs"¬¬ - for the guys, in sets of seven, with a different carpe diem poem on each: "Had we but world enough, and time, / This coyness, lady, were no crime." "Gather ye rosebuds while ye may." "Come, my darling, let us prove, / While we can, the sports of love." That sort of thing. How many times has some fellow has gotten to first base, and second, and third, but then failed to score? But if he were to be wearing Lucifer's Lyrical Briefs, and a literary message printed on spotlessly clean boxer shorts ("Coming soon!"), now that could be awfully romantic! Maybe then us guys would not have to wait around for our Christian girlfriends to make up their minds what they would like to do for the rest of the evening.

Great book even for a guy.

I saw a review of the book on the Internet and added it onto my wish list on Amazon.com. I put it there kind as a joke. Leave it to my mother in law to purchase the book that was added on to my wish list as a joke.

I didn't really mind because I was interested in the book so I read it. The author of the book is the owner of the store La Petite Croquette a lingerie store in New York City.

Although the book is really meant for women it was interesting for me as a guy to read. Most of the book is put together in a no nonsense "This is what you need to know when it comes to lingerie"

The first two chapters of the book talk about why owning high quality lingerie is important. It focuses on how lingerie makes a woman feel sexy and attractive.

The nitty gritty portion of the book really starts out with chapter 3 when it starts talking about bras. This is easily the largest single chapter in the book and it simply states what most women should really know. There is a lot of information about finding the right cup size and band size. It also has a short section on important dates in bra history. It includes a little bit about different styles of bras and what different bra types are good for.

The next section is on panties. It talks about VPL visible panty lines. Different styles of panties are listed and once again a list of what type of outfits each is good for.

The next few sections talk about sleep ware, shape ware, stockings and pantyhose and tights. Each section is organized like the section on bras.

The next section is one of the best section its called tips for women. It basically covers the same topics as the first two chapters but organized in a different way. It even talks about the very racy Perl Thong which sounds like a very interesting outfit to me.

There is also a nicely written section just for men. I think the major two point listed for men was be prepared for sticker shock. (lingerie is expensive) The other hint know the size of the woman that you are trying to buy for.

There are two other section one on caring for lingerie. The author advises washing all lingerie by hand. If you don't have time to wash by had use the gentle cycle. However she advises never drying you lingerie in the dryer always air dry. The heat of the dryer will destroy the elasticity of any lingerie.

The last section talks about the different types of fabric and how a person can build up there own lingerie collection.

This is a really good no nonsense book about what a woman should know about lingerie. I wish that my wife would sit down and read it. I think that women often forget how much simple lingerie can do to flame up passion in a man.

I would advise this book to any woman. I think this book has something most women have not thought of. The section on bras would make this book good for almost any woman. I think the simple fact that 9 out of 10 women are using a bra that does not fit proper is shocking.

This book has lots an lots of pictures. Pictures of yesterday and today's underwear and how thongs and g-strings can be worn comfortable. It also tells how underwire bras are not soppose to poke or hurt. The text is very informational and very undersanding.

I'm a male; I wanted to know more about womens undes. I learned alot from this book. I did not know that most visable panty lines came from wearing the wrong size panties, also how you should not wear white panties with white sheer pants (like a nurse uniform)

I told my wife that she was wearing the wrong size bra and she told me she was not. I measured her and told her she needed to be fitted. I convinced her to be fitted by a pro. She did and she was wearing the wrong size. She bought a couple of underwire bras that day. That same night she throwed away every bra she had (yes every bra she had). The next day we went out bra shopping. I never seen her so happy about bra shopping. She never liked underwire and I told her how your not suppose to feel the underwire. Now that she has the right size bra, underwire is all she looks for and she says underwire helps with lift.

As a man I found out why there's so much womens underwear and how to buy it. I buy her underwear that I like (sexy lingerie, thongs, g-strings and sexy bras;) I'll tell her; I bought me someting knowing how she only wears it for me and for a sort time. Now she wears what I buy as underwear even down to the thongs and g-strings as everyday undes. She feels very sexy now. I think that now I'm married to a diffent women. Her personality has changed for the better. I'm very thinkful for this book.

We want our outterwear to fit right. Why not our underwear. Yes only we know whats under our clothes but whats under our clothes can also effect the way we feel.

I highly recommend this book to any male or female. We all buy or will buy womens underwear. Guy are clueless about this (well maybe I can't say that for all guys) but I was lost, I had no clue???

This book has wisdom from beyond the ordinary realms of everyday life. This gives the reader tools and information to use to take steps "up" in life in order to know what purpose they are here for and to live that with passion. The author is highly knowledgeable and uses both general and specific information and personal stories from many people to bring home the points and importance of using these tools and when to use them. They help with the ordinary challenges of everyday life and open the door to the beyond. Pretty exciting stuff that could enlighten anyone who is seeking more from life.

The Crest of the Wave of Sufism's Real World Applications in Our time!

This book is a groundbreaking work in the sense that most sufi teachings are encapsulated for small groups of followers of one particular Master or Stream of enlightenment, but this work has the currency and immediacy to answer the cry of humanity's illnesses today and provide healing and help in the areas of relationships, health, and character building. I look forward to the publication of the successor volume due out this Sept. 07, and I know that it shall be an even bigger event for readers of this important wisdom school in our time. This book is definitely the crest of the wave of practical healthy steps toward enlightenment and valuable and useful applications for steps toward an enhanced life and increased appreciation for living in these difficult days, eventually leading us back to the source from whence we all came, by unlearning some of the hang-up and attachments holding us back and making us all ill. A great primer for meditation, concentration, and contemplation. Enjoy and welcome home.

The mind is the surface of the heart---the heart is the depth of the mind.

I have read many many "heart" entitled books over the years and it is surprising to me that so few people are aware of this book and the method of meditation that it introduces, especially given its ease and effectiveness. Before I discovered this work, my own heart had attained various states----from serious questioning with Ramana Maharshi and other spiritual quests, to the ecstatic verse of Rumi and Hafiz----from sharing with patients, life's trauma and joys through years as a health care provider, to the wrenching-heart-breaking-openings of ended relationships.

When I began Heart Rhythm Meditation, sensations and awareness felt great right away which aroused my curiosity and encouraged me to keep practicing. But it took me six more months of various methods of this meditation before realizing I was experiencing much more than just a temporary high or an insightful understanding. Some essential aspect of my being was gradually changing by such a simple practice of attending to my breathing and my heart-beat.

(For the quickest experiential entry, go immediately to "The First Intervention" practice on page 144 for a limited number of breaths. Then go right on to page 155 "The Second Intervention" also for a limited number of breaths. Gently. Simply. Easily. Entering into a "conversation" with your lungs and then opening to the possibility of a "conversation" with your heart. If any anxiety or concerns arise in this new relationship with your heart, move right on to page 166.)

I have read this book every year for the last nine years and shared it with patients and students. With even a little patience, I know you will discover or uncover within, exactly what the book's subtitle suggests: energy, clarity, peace, joy and inner power. Moving into your heart, layer after layer after layer. Holding a feeling state longer and longer. Living less through your mind, and living more from your heart. You will not lose any mental abilities but calm and enhance them as you gain your full heart function. As Puran Bair speaks so succinctly, you may now live with your mind in service to your heart.

Living from the Heart has altered my perception of what it truly means to be "real" and has had a profound effect on not only how I perceive others but more importantly on how I react to all of life's situations. I've found that through the breath practices alone my life has changed. My energy is double if not triple what it was, my ability to listen to others and really hear what they are saying has increased when I listen with my heart and maintain a full breathing pattern. Add the element breath practices and WOW you have a guaranteed method of changing your energy to match the situation. If you need to be the calm voice of reason in a business meeting where everyone else is charged up and you use the air and earth breaths you can not only see the bigger picture and commonality of everyone's concerns but you can remain calm in the storm and actually calm down everyone in the meeting (both in person and via phone). If you've had a long day and need to get a boost of energy or optimism then the fire breadth will increase your energy. The water breadth is perfect for developing and sending empathy and emotions for not only your closer relationships but also with those you may have just met. I've found that learning to harness the power of your breath can be an extremely powerful tool in business as well as in life.
I have tried many different forms of meditation over the past 24 years and have taken multiple leadership, communication, relationship building and "stress relief" courses yet they only cover bits and pieces of how to effectively listen to your intuition, relate to another person, show empathy and relieve stress. Living from the heart gives you sound, easy to practice and incredibly powerful methods of developing your concentration, intuition, communication with yourself, and guides you to living a heart centered life.
The key to this method of meditation is that it is not just visualization or counting or any of the other methods that take you away from your body and self but rather key practices that will apply to every situation in your life. This book not only teaches you how to meditate but gives you the tools to apply the benefits of mediation to enhance your everyday life. It gives you the tools you need to contact your heart, hear what it says, learn how to breath (which if that is all you learn from this book your life will be greatly enhanced), and to really connect with your spiritual side. The method is based on thousands of years of collective knowledge from multiple religions and spiritual practices blended with the latest in scientific research.
Puran Bair has done an absolutely spectacular job of synthesizing the best practices that many spend a lifetime learning and presenting the knowledge in an easy to understand, easy to practice and incredibly powerful manor that anyone can learn and benefit from.
I've given copies of this book to countless friends. Anyone that wants to learn how to really breath and utilize the power of the breath, develop awareness of their body and heart, increase their body's natural healing capacity and connect back with (or enhance) their spiritual awareness will love this book regardless of religious affiliation (or lack of religious belief).

In addition, those who will benefit are not just those on a spiritual path but anyone that wants to harness the power of their breath...using the square (or diamond) breath is a highly effective way to increase your lung capacity and VO2 Max...useful for runners, atheletes, anyone living in or traveling to high altitudes or basically anyone interested in increasign their stamina, recovering from surgury (takes pressure off your chest), and increases your vitality and health.

After living with Migraine Disease for 22 years (I am now only 26) this book has provided me with some answers. I have been suffering from chronic daily headache for the past four years. I picked up this book one weekend and could NOT put it down. Within a week, I was on the recommended Web sites, found a recommended doctor in my area and got in to see him. I've been headache-free for 2 days now! That might not seem like much to some people but to me, it feels like forever! Thank you Teri!

I have had migraines for over 20 years. I thought I knew it all and could write the book on migraines, but this one actually taught me some new tricks! I have shared it with 3 other people and even bought it for my sisters who suffer from migraines.

There's hope; you are not alone!

I enjoyed this book far more than I expected. Since the author also experiences migraine attacks, she writes with a great deal of empathy for the sufferer. Reading the stories of the author and others who have experienced attacks at least as frequent or as "bad" as mine reassured me that I am not alone. This book makes two main points: Nearly all migraine patients can be helped, and we should not settle for inadequate medical care. I recommend this book to anyone who experiences migraine attacks, or who cares about someone who does. The book provides both information and encouragement.

If you or someone you love suffers from Migraine Disease - you need this book!

Teri writes with such knowledge and compassion. Every single medical term is explained. She speaks from the heart and you can tell this book was a labor of love.

Thank you Teri! You helped me get my life back!!

Support and specifics

Sometimes I read parenting books for inspiration, other times for nitty-gritty advice. In a tone that's respectful of parents as well as children, Samalin delivers both. She is terrific at empathizing with a parent's perspective (she understands what it's like to be an overwhelmed parent), yet keeps the child's well-being in clear focus. I appreciate the specific, solution-oriented advice (for setting limits while remaining supportive of your child, for example), as well as the pat on the back from this friendly, often humorous author. As usual, Samalin contributes to the fun of becoming a well educated parent.

Exactly what the title says...and it works!

I read this book a few months ago and immediately took it to heart. It absolutely changed the way I think about discipline. The most interesting thing is that recently, I picked it up to browse through again, and was amazed at all the thoughts from the book that I have adopted as my own. So many tips I've used...so many anecdotes I've repeated to friends...so much GOOD STUFF that I've internalized since I read it the first time.

My husband read the book, too. He has for the past 4 years been a believer in the style of discipline promoted by John Rosemond: very authoritarian and a strict disciplinarian of the old school, "just like your grandmother." This style has become very popular lately, as American children seem to be more insolent, violent and disrespectful than ever before. A reversion to that old-time discipline seems, at first blush, to be the answer.

Although we certainly want our children to be well-behaved and respectful, we also want them to be happy and well-adjusted, not sneaky and defiant. After reading Samalin's thoughtful book, my husband and I have decided that we agree with Rosemond's goals, but not his methods. Samalin will give you options, and ways to be an authoritative parent, instead of an authoritarian one. THAT INSIGHT ALONE IS WORTH THE PRICE OF THIS BOOK, and there are many more.

I've never found one parenting book that has all the answers. In fact, the longer I'm a parent, the more convinced I am that there are no clear-cut instructions on discipline that are right for every child. But this book -- with its wonderful anecdotes, sample dialogues and calm, pragmatic suggestions -- is the one book I recommend above all others. I certainly wish my parents had read it.

WHAT A RELIEF!

Finally, a book I can actually use everyday! So many parenting books are great "in theory" but never work in practice. Nancy Samalin's book, Loving without Spoiling, saves my family from upset on a daily basis. I read parts of it over and over again, and it never fails to amaze me. I especially follow the "pick your battles" advice--this is so effective. Her simple suggestions to change the way you phrase requests are incredibly effective!

Nancy Samalin has provided a map for parents to help them navigate the bumps and blind curves on the road to raising happy, responsible children. Experienced parents will recognize and appreciate the jewels of wisdom in this practical and wise guide to parenting.

This book has become my most often referenced parenting book. Its format is ideal for 3-minute refresher courses on strategies. Today, I just re-read "End Morning Madness" and "Jump-Start the Dawdler" to help get ready for the first week of school. When you feel like there must be a better way to deal with a situation, but you are too stressed, distracted, or busy to calmly think it through, give yourself a time-out and run for this book.

This book is more important than the DSM and the ICD when it comes to Bipolar. It's mostly for professionals who have to deal with diagnosis and need to understand the illness. The writting style is overly accademic and cumbersome however it is the most useful and informative book around by a long shot. At around 1200 pages long, this is not a cover to cover quick read unless you have several months with nothing else to do.

This book is very thorough and gives an in depth look into the most recent research surrounding manic depressive disorder and depression. Starting with the history surrounding mental illness, moving along to diagnosis, prognosis, course of the illness', physiological, biochemical and anatomical changes that occur along with up to date research in it's genetic component, this book gives great insight into mood disorders.

A Must-Read for Patients

This month's long-awaited second edition recently hit the streets, and is well worth the wait. At more than 1,200 pages and with an impressive list of collaborators shedding light on all manner of matters melancholic and manic, the book represents a virtual Manhattan Project on mood disorders.

With our recovery riding on being as smart, if not smarter, than our treating professionals, it pays for patients to read what their clinicians are reading, especially a work of this magnitude. Don't let clinician-speak intimidate you. The authors went to great lengths to organize their subject matter into a meaningful and comprehensive whole, with clear transitions from one topic to the next. A few pages into the text, and one quickly becomes habituated to the polysyllables. Then it's clear sailing.

At $99, sales resistance is understandable. My two cents: You cannot afford NOT to have this book. Each day you struggle with this illness costs you money, already. The cost-benefit is a no-brainer. Stop paying your cable bill, if you have to, and make what could prove to be the best investment of your life.

Although a huge book along with a hefty price tag, this is probably the most up to date information on bipolar disorder (manic depression) available today. It offers a wealth of information that is usable to the clinician as well as the patient. In fact, I think this should be required reading for any clinician who deal with people with this condition.

I strongly urge the purchase of this book esp. for the consumer as self knowledge will be such an asset when communicating with your doctor. This book covers most everything from the most basic to the most complex information to date on this vexing condition. Though I am constantly searching the internet for the most up to date information on bipolar disease, I find the authors of this book to be the leading authorities presently.

Technical but Tops

Review Date: 2006-11-10
I bought this book because someone I know has just been diagnosed with "Soft Bipolar" disorder. This is a "shadow" form of bipolar disorder. While I've dealt with people with bipolar disorder before ( I'm a retired minister), I never heard of "soft bipolar" or "bipolar spectrum" disorder before. This book is the classic text on Bipolar disorder. The only problem is that it is a little old ( about 10 to 15 years old) and discoveries about "soft bipolar" disorder are just coming into the literature now. If you are depressed or diagnosed as depressed, as the person close to me was, you might have soft bipolar disorder. It is much more common than you think. The problem with it is that it needs different medications than regular unipolar disorder does. As an example, if you take one of the SSRI's (such as Prozac or Zoloft) and have soft bipolar, the chances are very good that you will end up with hypomania, which is a mild form of mania. It feels good for a long time--just like alcohol. But at some point in time, it will begin to backfire on you as it did on my friend. She kept getting more and more hyper and angry. Finally, her therapist decided to try out this diagnosis on her. He switched medicines, and it made her mood much more stable. This book would also be excellent for someone who wants to know about bipolar I disorder--manic depressive disorder. The problem with the book is that it is very technical, but everything is there even if it could use a little updating.

In a world of hype advertising where what is claimed so often bears little resemblance to reality, this book (and specifically its book jacket) is a refreshing change. This book delivers exactly what the publisher says. And, delivers very well!

I am a huge believer in the power of mentors, coaches, mastermind groups and the like. In my studies and interviews of peak performers from all walks of life, getting constructive help from others is very often cited as a key to a given peak performer's success.

Now tons of books have been written on coaching, but there has heretofore been a dearth of books on masterminding. Authors Vitale and Hibbler have wonderfully filled this niche. They have written an interesting and valuable how-to book on assembling and maintaining an effective mastermind group. Especially valuable for the self-employed who are void of the valuable networking often provided by the traditional corporate workplace.

Caveat emptor: If you looking for a deep psychological treatise on exactly how masterminding works neurologically, this is NOT the book. But, if you want a nuts and bolts guide to masterminding, this book rocks. Exactly as advertised by the publisher! How refreshing, and useful.

We are the product of the half dozen people with whom we spend the most time. Assemble and maintain the right mastermind group and one can't help but to be more successful. This book will show you how to make that happen.

Meet and Grow Rich contains everything you could possibly want to know about mastermind groups and then some. As a coach and consultant to what I term creative multipreneurs who are starting or growing a small business or businesses, I recognize the value of having a good, strong support team in place as a catalyst to success. Authors Joe Vitale and Bill Hibbler offer all the nuts and bolts on how to start your own mastermind group plus give many real life examples of the different types of groups that fall under this moniker. The second half of the book is filled with all sorts of tips, advice, and how-tos from several contributors who share their first-hand experiences. All the answers are here.

I was so inspired, I immediately contacted four self-employed colleagues and started my own group, as well as created a facilitated mastermind coaching groups program as a service of my coaching practice.

If you're a serious student of herbalism and classical studies, then you'll find this botanical set engrossing reading.

I purchased my copy of Mr. Abe's Goody Book at Bebo's in Mobile, Alabama. It was bought as a gift for my sister, and she loves it. Having to pay more attention to her health, she now can easily prepare healthy meals that taste great thanks to this book. These few words of mine would be incomplete unless I gave some insight about Mr. Sylvester. Kenneth is and has always been my very best and dearest friend, and I am sure there are many others who would say the same of him. Kenneth introduced me to different cuisines as we would frequent various restaurants about Mobile during the 70's. We would eat as much as we could of whatever we wanted. I noticed a change in Kenneth in the 80's when I would visit him from Texas. Now when we would have dinner he would make comments about my menu selections of red meat and French fries, then he would proceed to lecture me about the detriments of an unhealthy diet containing excess cholesterol and fats. I figured that he knew something of what he was saying since he owned a catering business at the time. The point that I want to make is that when you purchase this book, know that in it Kenneth has combined 30 years of experience in excellent cooking with an eye towards a healthy diet and lifestyle.

I have an engineering background and needed to learn MRI for my job. I knew nothing about MRI and this gave an excellent overview. It talks about things at the proton level, data collection in k-space with frequncy/phase RF signals, to images with FFTs. It also talks about the electronics of the system and commonly used sequences. The colored tables and highlighted text makes things exteremly easy to follow.
