A thoroughly enjoyable, informative, easy read. Jon Barron touches on a variety of topics relating to achieving an improved state of health. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone (not just those who are interested in alternative/complementary health care).

The author empowers the reader with sufficient knowledge and information that will hopefully be the catalyst for them to start changing their approach to looking after their bodies.

Something smells about many of these gushing reviews: click on "see all my reviews" and most have no other book reviews - even when they've allegedly read hundreds of health books. Is this believable?

Having pointed this out, this book is actually the most comprehensive, sensible and accurate book I have come across to date, and I have actually read hundreds of books on nutrition and health. Although it does not have anything additional to add or offer to what is already out there and available to the public, like other reviewers, I too have spent years accumulating health knowledge that Jon Barron has conveniently pulled together here.

HOWEVER, I also know that Barron is offering too much information and in just vague enough terms to make it difficult for anyone without encyclopedic knowledge to pull out the distilled minimum. Most who take this book seriously would have to use the MLM products formulated by the author - in the end, unfortunately, this book is simply a clever way to promote Barron's offerings - hence the many rave reviews without a single critical thing to say - I would bet good money that these reviews are from people who have joined his MLM scheme.

What a pity. The book could have been so much better if Barron had only used his knowledge with the true intention of helping us all. It could have been a diamond but it is, instead, a zirconia, a simulation.

Yes, buy the book for the information, but you will have to do a lot of research to find good quality products that will actually support your health - and if you follow all his suggestions you will have to spend a fortune. My minimum recommendation would be to follow the "intestinal cleansing" recommendations in chapter 3, since your body cannot properly use the expensive supplements until it becomes less toxic. Then supplement daily with good quality magnesium citrate (500mg), vitamin C (1 gm) and omega-3 EFAs (1 tablespoon organic flaxseed oil from the fridge of a health food store or fish oil capsules) - oh yes, and take psyllium husks too, great for your bowels.

I have read so many books on health and nutrition. Most were good, some were crap...but this one was the most comprehensive, sensible and accurate book I've come across to date. If you are looking for a plan to improve the quality of your life and keep you healthy or if you have been diagnosed with any disease and are looking for a way to be able to decrease your medications or eventually eliminate them, get this book and follow Jon Barrons recommendations. I can't say enough about this book. Also, check out www.jonbarron.org for more information and amazing products to improve all aspects of your life and health.

As a newcomer to the world of alternative health remedies I think Mr. Barron has done a tremendous job in writing this book. He brings alot of items to light concerning one's internal bodily functions. I'm fascinated by these discoveries and intend to follow his lead in becoming healthier as I grow older.
Thank you for giving me life after 50.

I began reading this book and had no idea it was for women over 45...but it made no difference because the information and story telling within the text are timeless. I am 28 years old and beginning to age, I found this book to be fantastic! I enjoyed looking at the transformations of the women in the book...Is that really her??!!! We can all relate to getting stuck in a rut, and this book will liberate you!

After reading this book I emailed Christopher Hopkins (The Author) with a thank you along with a few questions...and can you believe it??? Christopher Hopkins actually wrote me an email back answering my questions! He is the real deal, I can't wait for his next book! This is definitely a must read for any women. I would recommend it to any friend who wants to look her best, no matter what her age.

As Christopher Hopkins says..."Life is not a dress rehearsal!" I say...It's time to Begin staging YOUR comeback today!

The author has placed a photo of brushes and powder on nearly every page, apparently to substitute for substantive text or for a photo of something else that relates to the text. My favorite chapter explained that women of a certain age shouldn't wear low-cut dresses that teenagers wear. It looks trashy. Duh. Since ordering this book, Amazon has sent me email ads for books for the elderly. I expect a Preparation H coupon any day now. Save your money for a day at the spa and a make-over at your local makeup counter. I wouldn't have given this book even one star, except that Amazon required it to submit my review.

At 5'4", 115# I always figured the best thing I could do to "look young" (at 55y/o) was to stay in shape. Except I found myself still looking a lot like all of his "before" pictures. His tips on clothing, make up & hairstyle were great and it was all in one book. I've made many changes already. He's entertaining to read & I'd highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed this book. I am 47 and have always felt I dress fashionable, but recently have felt I need some pointers so I do not keep wearing the same look that might have looked good on me when I was 27, but needs some updating now that I am older. I loved this book, it was full of useful easy to understand instructions and advice for every woman. I also have curly, thick hair which is a challenge not to get frizzy, and as I have aged it seems my hair has gotten dryer.Christopher Hopkins did not forget us curly hair ladies. He had a chapter devoted to "Managing Curl" and gave us curly hair ladies some very good advise. The format of the book is excellent. Great photos and cute comments from Christopher throughout the book that make you feel like he is your buddy telling your some scoop that might be helpful. I recommend you buy this book and refer to it constantly like I do.

I love this book. I hate beauty books as a rule -as they are usually generated for women who aren't using anti-wrinkle creams yet. But this book is different, its not telling us to look younger, its helping us look the best we can now--today---at the age of 40+. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who cares to look fabulous as themselves!

Quality of Life

Review Date: 2008-09-24
I was recently diagnosed with an early stage prostate cancer. I immediately began a feverish internet research of treatment options and interviews with friends who had undergone various treatments.

The good thing about a cancer discovered early is the option of several treatment methods which can offer a cure. My dilemma was to choose the best treatment for my situation that also offered the highest quality of life.

I stumbled upon Bob's website and I was impressed by the large number of testimonials in favor of proton therapy by prostate cancer survivors. In my research I did not find a groundswell of support from treated patients for other treatment options.

I read this book from cover to cover and learned many new things about the various treatments, especially the variability in brachytherapy with seed implant distribution, placement and migration. This book should be required reading for every man facing prostate cancer decisions. Bob offers a wealth of insights on the quality of life after treatment which were shared with him during his many interviews with treated prostate cancer patients.

Read this book before finalizing your treatment decision - you won't regret it!

I purchased this book from this website on the strength of the reader reviews. I was not misled!
Having just been diagnosed in early July 2008 with Prostate Cancer, I was in shock. I too, received the same kind of feedback about being perfect for surgery, photon radiation and seed implants, as the author did. But reading this book armed me with so much information, I was teaching my Primary Care Doctor about Proton Therapy. And HE was getting excited listening to me!
Nearly everything written in this book is of practical value. The usefulness of the information is extensive for a non-text book.
This review is a little premature, in that I have not begun my Proton Treatments yet. I will begin treatment at MPRI in Indiana in the coming weeks. But, I will add to this or write another review in the future. Because it appears to me that reviews of this book are by extension, also reviews of Proton Therapy.
For today, I will just say that one could add another subtitle to this book that may read something like this:
Proton Therapy - The Cancer Treatment with the least side-effects and least risks of all other Cancer treatments available today!
or this: Proton Therapy - The Prostate Cancer Treatment that will leave you ready to work and live your life immediately after the treatments are done!
Stay Tuned. I'll be back with more.

Every man over 50 should read this book.

This is a must read for anyone diagnosed with prostate cancer and their wives. My husband was just diagnosed and will be receiving proton radiation therapy at M.D. Anderson in Houston.
There is no other treatment available that has as good an outcome with virtually no side effects.
We would not have even known about it (his urologist never mentioned it) had it not been for the tireless work of Bob Marckini in spreading the word through the internet and his book.
It's a quick and easy read with a wealth of information.
Highly recommend!

Being diagnosed with prostate cancer is difficult enough. Deciding on the right treatment can be down right excruciating. In some respects, choosing a treatment for early stage prostate cancer is like buying a car except that the stakes are much, much higher. You start out knowing you've got a number of good options. Then you collect a lot of confusing and conflicting information. You change your mind a lot, often leaning toward the last person or physician you spoke with. Fortunately for me one of the last things I did before deciding on a treatment was to read Bob Marckini's excellent book "You Can Beat Prostate Cancer ."

Frankly, I would have never known about Bob's book had I not lived in Jacksonville, Florida where proton beam therapy is offered at the University of Florida's Proton Therapy Institute (one of five centers in the United States currently in operation).

I was well into my research for a cure when I discovered Bob's book. What I found remarkable was that his story was my story, too. I gained great insight and comfort from his book. I can't tell how many times I would read a section about Bob's search for a treatment and think "that's exactly what I went through."
Most of all, it helped me further validate my decision to proceed with proton therapy.

Bob is not a doctor, but he is a prostate cancer survivor who did his research and tells his story in a very human and compelling manner. Even if you don't ultimately decide that proton is right for you, Bob's book is an easy to understand roadmap of how and why to take control of your treatment options.

If you have prostate cancer, do yourself a favor and read Bob's book before you make a decision that can affect the rest of your life.

If you have prostate cancer, you MUST read this book.

Bob Marckini's book took me by the hand, so to speak, and oriented me to the world of the prostate cancer patient. Quickly, I became highly informed about the nature of my disease, and the pros and cons of the treatment options. I cannot thank him enough for all his diligent research, for his wonderful gift of making complex things simple, and for the humanity that comes through in every page. Reading Marckini's book made me feel as if I had a friend and advocate right there with me to show me the way.

The author shares some inspirational stories of the lessons her grandfather, a Rabbi taught her as a child that served as building blocks for the rest of her life, as a Dr. and then a counselor. Whether you read this from cover to cover, because it is delightful and insightful, or take it story at a time over a period of time, it is a wonderful book. There are important life lessons for us all. Some will make you laugh, others cry, and others to say, "Oh wow!"

I happened upon this book by chance, and it is quite possibly the best book I've ever read. If you are looking for a book to inspire you and give you a positive outlook on life, this is it. It is incredibly refreshing and easy to read. Rather than one long story, it is a bunch of short stories, which makes it great for reading a little bit at a time. It has really helped me remember what is important in life. After reading this book, I can't wait to read other books by this author.

What a wonderful thing it would be if we all had a grandfather like Rachel Naomi Remen had. Since we don't, the next best thing might be to learn the lessons and experience the blessings by having her share her stories about him with us. She does so in a beautiful, almost under stated way that is never intrusive and leaves us with a feeling of deep appreciation. These are very human and moving parable like stories that enrich our connection to each other in almost imperceptible ways. Although this is definitely not a how to book, the stories may effect how we live our lives. Thank you to Dr. Remen.

A Great Book, Plain Simple (Response to Barbara Jordan)

I am a fan of Eric Harr's work. I've read his columns in Shape magazine and have enjoyed his other titles very much. I am dismayed at the review written by "Barbara Jordan "brownsugar76" who is obviously misguided and pessimistic. This book is a tips book -- 100 in all -- that give people basic guidance about exercise and living better. It never promises to be a thick, boring, scientific guide ... and THAT'S the appeal. There are hundreds of fitness books out there. Harr tries to deliver fitness wisdom in 100 simple tips. Granted some of them are a little "soft" for fitness buffs -- but most are very valuable.

I'm giving this book 4 stars, because it is GREAT for many people getting into fitness, but it's not geared towards more serious fitness people (who work out, say 5+ times a week).

Barbara Jordan "brownsugar76" doesn't see the book for its incredible value...which is a hearty book in easily-digestible "one-a-day" tips for people seeking to get fit and live and eat better.

As to her comment about the reviews of others, it appears Barbara Jordan "brownsugar76" is jealous of Eric Harr's success. I checked these people's reviews -- and they're REAL people with real opinions.

Be wary of green-with-ency reviewers like Barbara Jordan "brownsugar76." This is a great book. Decide for yourself.

Finally, fitness advice that will get you off your couch and onto the track / bike / into the pool / or whatever else you do. I just bought the book about a week ago, returned home, and read it cover to cover in an hour. One hundred simple and truly life-altering strategies are contained within that have gotten even my lazy self up and moving. Over the past two days, following the book's advice on everything from nutrition, to technique and motivation, I've run ten miles (and feel great!), and I don't plan on stopping any time soon :). From his writing, the author is a truly fit individual, both mentally and physically, and his personal perspectives on the wonders of a clear mind and a healthy body are refreshing every time I open the conveniently-pocket-sized book. Humorous, compelling and without pretense, Harr's guide can pull out the passion and performance in anyone (and I mean anyone) and set them on the path to a healthier and happier self.

I read this wonderful book in eight hours--but don't let that fool you; it's packed with good information and moving inspiration. Every word matters. When I started showing results, my friends and family wanted to know the secret. At least 3 of them bought the book for themselves. Eric Harr's advice and motivation really works. Big! How do I know? Because I'm significantly SMALLER! Yahoo!!! :)

This book is very helpful and informative. I didn't know much about AS previously. The author has extensive clinical experience with AS patients. He includes his own insights as well as those of other people. He includes many descriptions and examples. I am only half way through the book, but I am recognizing many symptoms in my teenage daughter. It explains alot! Even things I would not have connected with AS. This book is not negative in any way. I feel very good about who my daughter is, and understand better why she is the way she is. AS people are very special and gifted. AS people can contribute to the world in ways the rest of us cannot. This book also has some "coping" suggestions, such as how to help the AS person recognize social cues. I would recommend this book to anyone curious about Aspergers Syndrome.

In this short book are some of the most trenchant, clearly-written statements on how to be an effective executive ever written. It contains some philosophical statements, more real-world examples, and most importantly, it details actions the executive can take to become immediately effective. I wish I had read this 20 years ago!

Other books like Good To Great and Built To Last are excellent, too, but are more strategic. This is the tactical book, beautifully and concisely written. If you want to be effective, buy this book now. It is brilliant.

When I received this book, I realized it was not at all what I had been looking for. This book would have been great, had I bought it before I got my puppy. However, I'd had my little bundle of joy for a few weeks already, and was looking more for potty training, and training in general information. I must admit, I did read it, and learned quite a few new things, especially about behavior. I did skip the first half of the book though, as it did not pertain to us. It talks about how to prepare your home for when you get a puppy, and how to introduce them to the environment. If you haven't gotten your puppy yet, this is a great first read.

Very helpful book. We used the techniques in the book to help with an aggressive dominant puppy, and he is slowly improving. Persistence and patience are key to puppy training.

I ordered this amongst some other books. It gives short summaries in many areas of puppy behavior. It is easy to refer back to and I am referring back to it often. The behavioral problems section and dog signals using body language section are great, it gives good information about what the puppy means by doing these things and how to correct where needed.

This is a very solid, practical manual with good, specific guidance on raising a pup to be obedient, manageable and secure. The behavior or a dog can be a joy to itself and its owner or a disaster and this book will show you the steps to raising a pet you can love and enjoy and one that will be happy and safe with you.

How to Raise a Puppy You Can Live With Of the many books that have been written about raising puppies, this one has truly stood the test of time. It provides an easy to follow formula for success. Readers learn all about puppy selection as well as secrets to socializing and training that result in a successful transition from puppyhood to adulthood. The end result is a dog whose personality is well suited to his human family and environment rather than one who will be abandoned or relinquished to an animal shelter. I love the fact that Rutherford's and Neil's methodology incorporates positive reinforcement only. Their keen understanding of canine behavior provides a solid background for what they teach. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is contemplating puppy adoption.

This book has a great deal of knowledge from beginner to advanced techniques. It is full of bud "porn" and pictures that only someone like Cervantes could get access to. Easy to read, and jump from section to section. No need to read cover to cover to get what you need.

I love this book. I was very surprised this book is so in depth and awesome. I have grown before, but there is info that I never imagined that would be in a Marijuana horticulture book. It's perfect for anyone. VERY New grower friendly, It's great knowledge for the people getting into growing, and it's great for the experienced growers too: this is a great book to learn more from. There is even a section on how to make Hash! I highly recommend this book, awesome info, packed with awesome helpful pictures, and all I could hope for in a Marijuana horticulture book. ^.^

I went from a solo plant, maybe an oz harvest last year, to a harvest I can't even mention on here this year. I bought this book in January and read it cover to cover, what I learned has changed my technique, my appreciation, and my SUCCESS RATE!!!!!!! Cop the DVD's too, you won't be able to watch em just once, I guarantee. Buy this book, learn something, and enjoy a great harvest.

It just keeps me NORML!!!!!
