If you work in a pediatric practice which serves children, you will find yourself turning to this book again and again. It has very helpful and complete text and pictures. Our pediatric residents use it as a primary board review text. I highly recommend it. Anyone want to buy a Nelson's???

Another ubiquitous book. A "must have"....or "must have owned". Too big. People just buy it for the pictures anyway, has anyone really read the text in Zitelli's? Most people use it as an atlas to review for boards...My logic is, if you're gonna just use it for pictures, why not google images? There are other atlases out there that are less cumbersome and cheaper. Plus, do you think the pedi board people will take a picture right out of a well-known text?

Useful as a bookend or coffe table a-la Kramer in Seinfeld.

This book is by far the best book that I have read on miscarriage. It helped me to truly understand what was going on with my body during a very scary time. It also gave me hope for the future. It combines real life stories with the scientific data. I recommend this book for anyone the is miscarrying, has miscarried, is pregnant, or wants to get pregnant. 2 thumbs up!!!

Take control of your fertility/miscarriage

Review Date: 2008-07-21
This is the book for women who want to take control of their fertility life. This book explains what causes miscarriages, how to test, and what your probabilities are of having different diagnosis or future miscarriages.

Even if you are just wanting to be able to ask intelligent questions to your doctor or fertility specialist, this enables you to have your research done.

No place online - No other book - Nothing I have read has enabled me to feel in control of this situation giving me a direct way to help diagnose myself (to an extent) and give me freedom and ability to question the - "Just go try again." line that you get from doctors.

Strongly recommended to anyone who has had an unfortunate multiple pregnancy loss such as I have.

I was initially a little apprehensive about this book, wondering if it was going to leave me feeling more worried or be full of information that I could do nothing with. It doesn't. This is one of the best books I've read so far and it is so full of up to date information. The author makes it so easy to read, even though it is primarily medical info. The stories that precede each chapter are touching, and a great way to add a personal experience you may relate to. In short, great book, worth every penny, wonderful information. You truly will feel armed with the info you need to confidently experience pregnancy again.

A wonderful book offering hope and the knowledge necessary to advocate for a healthy pregnancy

I recommend this book to anyone wanting to have a baby. I wish I had read it before we had a miscarriage and then an ectopic pregnancy. It is reader-friendly and is packed with invaluable information about every aspect of pregnancy loss: physical, emotional, relational, medical. The author speaks from personal experience as well as the experiences of many other couples. Armed with the information in this book alone, I feel confident that we will realize our dream of a healthy pregnancy. I now know what questions to ask, what medical support to request, and when to advocate for my self and my baby.

Making it work for you is the Challenge....

When I realized that I Binged daily, I finally saw that I had a problem with food. My counselor turned me on to Feeding the Hungry Heart, which made me try her Workshop (MP3 format from her direct site). I was finally on the right path, but don't let the easy rules fool you. Learning how to eat again is hard work, with daily challenges, and relapses. I would never have beleived how many others face the challenges I fac everyday. To anyone struggling with Bingeing; I wish you luck, and happy eating, it truly is a lifestyle change.

This is a really great book to help with emotional and stress over-eating. I have gotten worse and worse in my emotional over eating, and I have read and tried countless diets to try to find help. I have even gone to 3 different counselors in the past few years to try to get help, but I still have not found the solution to my behavior. She approaches the problem of emotional overeating in a very kind and understanding way, her non-judgemental approach makes you feel understood and capable of stopping the crazy behavior of overeating. I definitely feel like this book is the answer that I have been looking for.

AWESOME book from a person who has "been there".

This book changed my life in all the ways I was longing for it to be changed.
I read Geneen's work in the middle of my eating disorder. I didn't begin using it right away because I didn't trust it. I didn't like it. I didn't think it would work. It does.
Different approaches work for different people. I think this worked for me because, deep down Geneen's philosophy is in accordance with my own. I wanted to be my own authority. I wanted it bad enough to give this a try. I didn't tell myself I had to do this forever. I didn't have blind faith. I also didn't give up on it in the first three months. I gave myself a year to decide. A year, where I promised myself I wouldn't diet. A year in which to work through every exercise I reasonably could. In addition to committing to this book, I continued seeing a therapist on a weekly basis. That helped, but this book is what ultimately gave me coping tools. I know that I was in the extreme, not everybody needs as much help as I did. I also know that distorted eating is very normal in this culture. I feel blessed to have been able to examine something so fundamental, and transform what was a problem to a benefitt. I've read all of Ms. Roth's books and enjoyed each of them. This one has a great combination of explaining and exercises to do, which is why I chose it. However, the chapters are widely divergent in terms of work. Her other book "Why Weight" appears to be the same exact work better organized, but less expository. If you are unsure if this work is for you, get "Breaking Free". If after reading through it you feel excited but overwhelmed by the work load, you may wish to try "Why Weight" as a work book.
I never review books. I chose to review this one because it was very helpful to me, and a big risk. I hope this is of some help.

A Small Book Packed with Profound Healing Exercises
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-11-06
This little book is the "how do I?" to increase your healing power -- for yourself, for others. While you might be tempted to pooh-pooh the information presented, the credentials of the author, who moved from atheistic scientist to gifted spiritual healer, will give you confidence to try and succeed at spiritual healing. And, no, you don't have to give up on every other form of healing. In fact, according to Dr. Hawkes, you should not. She believes a variety of healing modalities have times and circumstances where they will be effective.

What I like best about this book is that it is packed with exercises Dr. Hawkes calls "Bridge to Healing." Many focus on visualizations; all require a meditative state. Meditation has been proven in a number of scientific laboratories to promote healing and well-being. And, although, you may never reach Dr. Hawkes' abilities as healer, you will certainly promote your own well-being by practicing her exercises.

Cell-Level Healing is more workbook than text book. The "how does it work" question is not answered for you. You'll have to try it and see for yourself.

Just buy the book and hide away to study.

I am a healer. This is an outstanding book. Let your body/mind/spirit connect and go to that quiet inner space and contemplate your "SELF". If you are new to these concepts you will marvel at the thoughtful manner the data is expressed.
This book is worth your time and money. Forget the science, grasp the spiritual. Is that not where we all live?

Attracted to this book since I was in the medical field and have been involved in energy healing for years. Could have included more medical facts, but nonetheless, author gives "practical" exercises anyone can do, along with adequate explanations of "why" they work. I dog-earned, underlined, and copied some of the colored pictures with affirmations on them to post where I could see them. Having received just prior to another back surgery, I reworked some of her visualizations/affirmations to personalize for my situation. Had such a minute amount of blood loss during very long surgery, the doctor was astounded. Lots of applicable information in this beautifully illustrated and profound book. Cellular memory and consciousness has been around for some time but maybe the credibility of the author will put this book into the hands of medical professionals who can best utilize this information for their patients for more dramatic healing results.

"Cell-Level Healing: The Bridge from Soul to Cell" by Joyce Whitely Hawkes is an insightful source of wisdom and information that bridges conventional scientific cell biology with spiritual healing.

The book is scientifically grounded in terms of biophysics and also contains the author's personal insights from her own near death experience together with alternative healing techniques.

Ultimately our consciousness is key to our healing journey!

Simple and profound!

Better yet read "Cell-Level Healing" together with "Nexus" a New Age novel about consciouness, healing, psychological and spiritual insight.

This book reads easily and like others, I love the clever Chapter headings, sub-titles and Route 66 markers, full of quotes and lines from songs...you may even find yourself singing. The book clearly describes the reasons we are ready for change as well as the reasons we get stuck and have trouble moving forward. A great book both for those retiring as well as those ready to do something different for other reasons! Makes a great gift for a friend~

The organization and practical information of this book make it useful as a reference, but the use of song titles throughout make it fun as well! The "real" people and their stories add a depth to the book that sets it apart from so many other career evaluation books. I've already given several to friends considering mid-life changes.

This book is a perfect storm of readability. Greenfeld approaches the virus like a murder mystery, hunting it down with his narratives of scientists and doctors looking for clues, and the exotic settings of China and Hong Kong draw you in. It's informative, well researched and covers every level of the SARS story, from meetings in Beijing to the daily lives of doomed apartment-dwellers in Hong Kong highrises. I read it in five days, and it's 400 pages. I would recommend it for anyone remotely interested in virus outbreaks, which should be all of us. Great book!

This is a very interesting look at the outbreak of SARS, told in a journalistic narrative voice by the editor of Asia's Time Magazine. It takes you through the eyes of many of the doctors and victims involved, and gives a strong sense of the feel of the time, the various cover ups, and how the discoveries unfolded. A quick and interesting read.

My wife read this book first and urged me to do so. I'm glad I did. As a non scientist, I found Greenfeld's writing and analysis very understandable and riveting. From patient zero, a chop shop employee in one of Hong Kong's teeming "Wild Flavor" eateries, to the pursuit of patients in the steppe of China's rural areas, he has put together a concise and chilling treatise on how fragile life in this world can be, and make you wonder when another killer virus will emerge. I recommend this book to every infectious disease specialist out there and any lay person who wants a great summary on the killers that are waiting for their genetic lottery tickets to get punched.

Review Date: 2008-05-04
Karl Taro Greenfeld (KTG) in his book follows the SARS virus from its early beginnings in Guangdong Province (China) in late 2002 right to its end during 2003. He starts off with the rumours flying around Guangdong in late 2002 and then follows the virus around to wherever it goes. He also covers the science effort to identify it and the efforts to contain it.

KTG calls SARS the first pandemic of the 21st century. Perhaps it should be called the first pandemic which didn't happen. The figures of infected people and casualties he quotes at the beginning of each chapter are an approximation only as KTG admits at the end of the book and I can well believe that because when you read about the virus's impact on China you would think that the casualty figures should be higher.

China comes out badly in all this. As official policy dictates that the virus does not exist, it does not exist and therefore it spreads virtually unhindered until official policy changes, which eventually it did. But guess how many lives could have been saved if official policy had changed faster or if it hadn't been formulated in the first place. When you read KTG's bit on how China works you can see that it will happen again. That's the terrifying bit I took home from reading this book. Imagine a virus that outpaces the speed at which bureaucracy moves. We could be all dead by the time they make up their minds.

As a social worker on a dialysis unit I have found this book extremely helpful in my own education of what new dialysis patients face, but also what patients deal with as a long time dialysis patient. The author leaves no stone unturned and not sugar coating a thing- she's going to tell you how to deal with failure and success each with a bit of unique humor and empathy. She has suggestions how to handle you illness in professional situations as well as how to not get bored if re-hospitalized. Bottom line she is an inspiration and a beneficial read to all!

As a student working to finish a university degree while dealing with a chronic illness (indeterminate IBD with myalgia and fatigue) Ms Hartwell's experiences of living a successful and joy-filled life despite her illness has been an inspiration and source of hope for me. Her humor despite trials is motivating, her wisdom is an amazing resource.
I especially enjoyed her chapter on overcoming the "Damaged Goods Syndrome". A tendency for those with Chronic Illness is to have negative thoughts and self-esteem challenges when we compare ourselves to other more healthy people. I often find myself viewing myself as "not good enough" and am frustrated by how disabling my illness can be in acheiving my goals.
While the mind can work destructively, it can also be employed to build joy, humor, and a positive attitude that helps achieve goals. Learning to identify and work through cognitive distortions gives you a new lens in which to see your life.
Hartwell quote in her book Helen Keller as saying "We could never learn to be brave and patient, if there were only joy in the world."

Cheerful, but nothing new.

I am a true believer in the fact that you become what you think about...meaning that you move in the direction of your most dominant thoughts. For years I have been studying and practicing health alternatives and have felt like there was still something missing. I spent many hours thinking and meditating about how nice it would be to have one simple miracle product that was natural and totally beneficial to my overall health and well being.

Well in September 2008 a friend of mine had Amazon secretly drop ship Dr. Fife's book "Oil Pulling" to my home and being an avid reader, I immediately began reading and the more I read, the more intrigued I became and suddenly realized that my thoughts had manifested me to this point in my life and that I truly had discovered the simple miracle product that I was so wishing to discover.

After quickly reading "Oil Pulling" and discovering all the benefits, I ordered 3 more of Dr. Fife's books with "Coconut Cures" being one of them and have not been able to put the book down since. Everytime I open the book up I learn something new and amazing. All these years have passed and I'm just now discovering the amazing health benefits of coconuts. It is just incredible! I highly recommend these two books to everyone!!

I have read a many survival guides and things of such. One definite plus over most is colored images for identifying things that may be harmfull if eaten. It covers a lot of different terrain, weather and just about anything you might need. The best thing about this is it is very small, and if you are a hiker (or outdoors man) you can throw it in your pack to reference as situation arises without worrying too much about taking up too much space.

I've had this book for a few years now and have read it over and over again. The information is amazing. There's not a topic that Wiseman doesn't cover or at least touch on.
Not only is it small, it's tough too. It's been on every camping trip, hike, deployment and just about every other trip with me for the past three years and it's still in great shape.
Friends of mine that could have cared less about a suvival book have read mine on airplane rides and afterwards went and bought thier own.

This is a great companion to Joy Bauer's groundbreaking 90/10 Plan. This is a diet plan that doesn't feel like one and offers stunning results without giving anything up. The recipes are accessible, easy to prepare, and offer a wide range of options for even the fussiest of eaters. This is a book to be used for years to come.

Great for the beginning cook!

I was a little intimidated when I saw the recipes, because some of them have a lot of ingredients. Well, a lot for me, who's more of a '4 ingredients or less' type of person. But they're explained really well, and the steps themselves are simple. The ingredients that I've encountered so far are simple to find, and the results are tasty, simple food. Some of the receipes might be a little too elementary for people who have a clue in the kitchen, but I really don't, so it helps me out a lot. Plus, there's a section for kid-friendly dishes, and another that puts together menus for 'fancy meals' with 2-3 dishes. They're a bit more exotic than the tuna salad and angel hair pasta picatta I've tackled thus far.

Oh, and before the section on recipes they have general cooking tips, which is really great. I really like the 'aisle-by-aisle' guide section. It helps to know how to properly store the fruits and veggies I get (and for how long), and what the different health aspects are to different types of fish or poultry or beef, or what different spices are typically used for.

So, for me, this was a great book. Now my only problem is I have so many leftovers piling up because I want to try everything!

I had thought this book would be full of common recipes but instead the recipes have lots of ingredients & are just more than I was looking for.
